What is Considered a Pet Emergency?

Knowing what counts as an emergency can sometimes be a challenge. The following issues are considered pet emergencies:

  • Toxicity in any form (from eating chocolate to consuming poison).
    • Call the ASPCA Poison Control Hotline at (888) 426-4435 while on your way to us. Those few minutes are critical!
  • Car crash where your pet is injured
  • Respiratory problems where your pet is having difficulty breathing
  • Heart issues, known or unknown, where your pet might be having trouble walking or breathing
  • Dog fights, especially if there was blood
  • Bee stings or snake bites, which can often be poisonous
  • Not eating or drinking for more than 24-48 hours

Whether you need emergency vet care or pet urgent care, being proactive is the best course of action. If you have any questions or suspicions, call our hospital at (336) 946-3441, and we can help you decide what to do next.
